Principal Compensation Consultant

In this role, you will be a highly leveraged consultant demonstrating a depth of technical expertise in the area of broad based compensation (total rewards, base pay, annual incentives, broad-based long-term awards, recognition awards and other forms of direct compensation). You will be responsible for identifying/winning significant client opportunities and responsible for generating a significant portion of business revenue ($900,000 a year). As a trusted partner and influential advisor, you will provide your clients with expert technical strategy and insight while remaining alert to broader organizational HR issues and opportunities. To this, you will act as a strong project leader for large, complex client assignments. In addition to delivering quality work, we expect that you will contribute to both client and content leadership. Also in this role, it is likely you will be managing a team of experienced associates, but it is not required. Incumbents in this role should demonstrate the potential and desire to move to the principal level in our organization.


Key Responsibilities and Duties include:
•Leads complex client scoping conversations with Account Executives, Business Developers or independently; Presents solutions to executive or senior level clients.
•Creates significant, new opportunities with existing clients and prospects independently; Leverages personal/professional relationships to generate business and revenue.
•Leads design, modification and implementation of client solutions; Drafts and or reviews complex client proposals; Manages complex, large scale client projects.
•Demonstrates superior client consulting skills; Publishes/presents client results internally or externally.
•Directs works of less experienced associates to gather information and fact-finding for client projects; Analyzes and interprets qualitative and/or quantitative assessment of current state to the client.
•Mentors associates and builds future talent pool with direction from lead consultants and leadership.
•Stay current on broad-based compensation trends and activities, and stay up to date on broad HR issues and how they relate to your clients and content area

Knowledge and Skills:
•Demonstrates strong Technical Expertise in the following areas compensation/total rewards philosophy; job content analysis, job evaluation and job slotting; compensation structure design;
•Short-term incentive design and long-term design affecting the broad based population; pay policies and administration, including FLSA compliance; pay systems and technology solutions; and
•Business case development, implementation planning and change management.
•Excellent Project Management Skills.
•Strong coach, mentor, and/or manage a team of associates.
•Exceptional analytical and problem-solving ability.
•Exceptional business writing (correspondence and reports; excellent presentation skills.
•Superior client relationship management skills; Demonstrates strong business development and selling skills.

Educational Requirements:
•Bachelor’s degree in related disciplines (Business, Finance, HR).
•MBA (or equivalent)
•CCP (or equivalent) are preferred.

Experience and Additional Requirements:
•Minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience in compensation/rewards or related consulting area.
•Knowledgeable about day to day Compensation and HR department operations and how compensation and HR issues integrates with other areas of a client’s organization.
•Knowledge and capabilities in performance management, performance measurement including competency design; sales compensation; international/global compensation; and/or other areas of talent management
•Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
•Ability to travel (up to 50%) and work onsite periodically at client locations (up to 100% for several months)
•Billable time of 60-70%
•Generates and delivers revenue of $900K annually. In this role, you will be delivering billable client work and generating revenue independently.
