Description:	The global stock market decline has left an unprecedented number of employees worldwide with equity awards that have a diminished, or no, value – underwater stock options, sunken RSUs, submerged performance plans with no hope of resurfacing before the end of the performance period. This situation has increased cynicism about equity-based compensation. There is widespread discussion of option exchanges in the US but a series of financial and regulatory changes over the past five years make these more difficult, and more expensive, than they were during the dot-com bust of 2001-2002.  The increased use of full-value awards, while mitigating the underwater option issue in some companies, makes the underwater equity issue more difficult but many companies will proceed with these exchanges in the coming months.  Many countries have restrictions that make taking action on underwater equity difficult or impossible, however.  This webcast broadens the discussion from option exchanges and repricings to alternatives for dealing with underwater equity.
