GEO's Calgary Chapter Meeting

TOPIC
Compensation Strategies for Difficult Times
Nowhere is a compelling compensation strategy more important than in Alberta. In the face of the current downturn, however, companies are under pressure to reduce compensation expense while still retaining and motivating employees.

Join the Calgary GEO chapter to hear from Brien Perry, VP Compensation & Systems at Secure Energy Services Inc. about the various initiatives that Secure has undertaken to dramatically reduce compensation costs while actually increasing employee motivation and buy-in. Topics to be discussed will include:

  • The more typical early responses of headcount reductions and expense scrutiny
  • Slightly less common actions like the suspension of the company’s ESPP and broad offerings of unpaid time off
  • Introduction of the exchange of cash salary for deferred equity
  • Canadian Revenue Agency issues with making this exchange
  • Maintaining current health benefit coverage despite lower salaries
  • Employee buy-in to the plan
  • Lessons learned in seeking shareholder approval

Presented by:
Brien Perry, VP Compensation & Systems, Secure Energy Services Inc.
